Why UPWr Doctoral School?
The Wroclaw University of Environmental and Life Sciences UPWr (Uniwersytet Przyrodniczy we Wrocławiu) is not only a leading educational facility in Poland, but also an internationally reputable research centre. Together with our foreign partners, we are focused on ground-breaking research relating to a. o. innovative technologies in the production of food, nutraceuticals and bio-preparations; food safety; clinical veterinary medicine; pre-clinical trials on animal models; animal welfare; medical and environmental biology; climate change; by-products valorisation and further applications; sustainable farming systems; biological diversity; environmental protection; alternative energy sources; and global satellite-assisted observation.
The research at UPWr is driven by a single goal - to change the world around us in harmony with the principles of peaceful coexistence and sustainable development.
The UPWr Doctoral School provides training in seven disciplines and in three fields:
1) Natural Sciences
- Biological Sciences
2) Agricultural Sciences
- Nutrition and Food Technology
- Veterinary Medicine
- Animal Science and Fisheries
- Agriculture and Horticulture
3) Engineering and Technology
- Civil Engineering and Transport
- Environmental Engineering, Mining and Energy
The UPWr Doctoral School emphasises self-development and problem-solving skills to teach our students how to approach their work with an open mind and use innovative methods. Such an approach allows us to shape open and innovative researchers, whose will enter the world of international science by conducting ground-breaking and societally applicable research.
The educational programme has been developed by the leading scientists to ensure our students to be provided with the best and up-to-date knowledge in the continuously changing world. The interdisciplinary programme involves students in research projects and dissemination of the achievements i.e. publishing in the best internationally recognized journals. Each student works on the individual programme under direct supervision and guidance of a selected tutors. The school strongly encourages participation in training, courses, scientific conferences and congresses.
UPWr gives the opportunity to its students to become a member of the scientific community, setting them on the track to a successful career at any university, research centres or business in the world. Our individual “one-to-one; master – student” approach helps to shape each student’s career path.
Thanks to education provided by UPWr, each PhD student will be able to:
- formulate research questions based on scientific progress,
- engage in ground-breaking research,
- publish findings in leading journals,
- pursue interdisciplinary endeavours covering a variety of grounds,
- view research goals and findings in a social context,
- concisely formulate research proposals in agriculture, natural science, engineering and technology.
The following costs will be financed for successful candidates:
• research consumables
• research analysis
• realisation of one-year internship in a selected scientific institution abroad
• dissemination of scientific results - publication costs
• participation in national and international conferences
• scholarship (approx. 3100 PLN, net payment)
• additional motivational scholarship for 50% of the best foreign PhD students (5000 PLN, net payment) – applies only to Veterinary Medicine, Food Technology and Nutrition, Biological Science
