Postdoctoral Research Fellows at ULiège (Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech Faculty)

Two postdoc positions in soil science and biogeochemistry in the framework of the FNRS project “SENSI”:

«Sensitivity to climate change of soil processes controlling Si cycle».

Within University of Liège (Belgium), I am looking for two postdoctoral researchers in the framework of the fully funded research FNRS project SENSI. The full-time positions will be hosted in Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech and will start on 1st of February 2020 (2-years position) and 1st of June 2020 (1-year position).

This project aims to study how soil processes (silicate weathering and organic matter decomposition) involved in the biogeochemical silicon cycle are sensitive to climate changes. The experiment will be implemented in a brand new and cutting-edge infrastructure of the University of Liège, the ECOTRON located in the TERRA Teaching and Research Centre.

Our project implemented in highly controlled climatic conditions will target multiple scales and disciplines challenges in the field of soil science, biogeochemistry and ecology.

The first position starting in February 2020 will focus on soil processes controlling silicon cycle under changing climate while the second position starting in June 2020 will compute and model silicon fluxes.

The two positions are open until filled.

I am seeking for scientists motivated by postdoctoral training. My research group needs you for your skills, expertise and interest in soil and environmental sciences, but also for your mentorship abilities for junior scientists (MSc students and PhD candidates) helping them to spreading their wings and to arouse their scientific curiosity.

My standard lab policy is to make every effort to stimulate strict hands in free minds.

You should reach out to current and past lab members for feedback on our research environment, and keep it to yourself to allow frank and fair discussions.

I will do my best to help you with personal matters (spousal accommodations, child care, …) once you receive the offer, so nobody can discriminate against you based on these personal factors.

My research group run in such a way that work organization is very flexible

Requirements

  • PhD thesis in soil sciences, environmental sciences, environmental chemistry, biogeochemistry or related discipline
  • English language proficiency
  • Research environment requiring international mobility

Please do not let lack of some skills make you feel you are ineligible for any position here. If some skills are missing, they can generally be taught.

It is my role to help you develop your research program with mutual interest and I try to run my research group transparently regarding my career decisions that would affect my mentorship and research.

Interested candidates should send me a CV. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me for details (jtcornelis@uliege.be)

Warm regards,

Jean-Thomas Cornelis
