The Conference on Research Careers 2025 will take place 11-12 December. This third edition of the conference will explore how Europe can create a more sustainable, supportive, and high-quality environment for researchers. It brings together policymakers, research professionals, and key stakeholder networks to discuss how policies and new initiatives can shape the future of research careers in Europe and beyond.
Through plenary sessions and interactive thematic discussions, participants will explore how to connect policy frameworks with practical measures that improve research professionals’ working conditions, mobility, and recognition.
This year’s programme will highlight:
- The promotion and protection of scientific freedom
- New initiatives to make research careers more attractive, sustainable, mobile, and rewarding
- Latest policy developments supporting career stability and excellence across sectors and borders
- Opportunities for networking and collaboration
Closely linked to this event, the Conference on Freedom of Scientific Research, co-organised with UNESCO, will take place on 10 December. The conference will examine how research is carried out under increasing undue pressure. The programme moves from personal testimonies of scientists who have faced threats, to new evidence on emerging trends, and then to an exploration of how misinformation, surveillance, and AI are influencing daily work in labs and universities. Speakers will present the latest findings and discuss ideas relevant to forthcoming EU legislation, followed by a practical exchange on approaches that already show results across Europe.
