Offer Description

Join our cutting-edge research team at Chalmers, exploring microresonator frequency combs for advanced communications and metrology. We’re looking for a postdoctoral fellow to drive innovation in photonics integration. If you're passionate about advancing optical technology, do not hesitate to apply!

Information about the division and the department
An optical frequency comb is a laser source with evenly spaced, narrow frequency lines that maintain phase coherence across the spectrum. Microresonator frequency combs (microcombs) offer a chip-scale alternative to femtosecond mode-locked lasers, with advantages in frequency synthesis and metrology, from advanced communications to radio-frequency photonics.

Our group has demonstrated high-efficiency microcombs based on silicon nitride, with applications in coherent optical communications and nonlinear physics. We seek a postdoctoral fellow to explore new research avenues, including integration with active devices like microtransfer printing and hybrid techniques.

The Photonics Laboratory at the Microtechnology and Nanoscience Department (MC2) is a dynamic, international group of about 30 members. We conduct both fundamental and applied research in optoelectronics, nanophotonics, and fiber optic systems. Our state-of-the-art laboratory and in-house cleanroom facilities enable us to develop cutting-edge photonic devices.

Major responsibilities
As postdoctoral fellow, your main responsibilities are to lead and conduct research, and guide junior PhD students. You will have the freedom to contribute with your ideas, and collaborate with other senior researchers and professors.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position you must have:
- a PhD degree (or equivalent) in Applied Physics, Engineering Physics, Electrical Engineering or similar, awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline. Exceptions from the 3-year limit can be made for longer periods resulting from parental leave, sick leave or military service*;
- experience with supervision of junior students (PhD or Master);
- solid experience with laser frequency combs and/or silicon photonics.

It is meritorious if you have:
- knowledge of standard finite element solvers and computational techniques in nonlinear optics (generalized nonlinear Schrödinger equation, Lugiato-Lefever equation, etc.).

* The date shown in your doctoral degree certificate is the date we use, as this is the date you have met all requirements for the doctoral degree.

Contract terms
The postdoctoral position is a full-time temporary employment position limited to 2 years.
We offer a competitive salary, excellent working conditions and access to world-class facilities and infrastructure. Starting date is negotiable.
